Business Resilience Assessment

Core Capabilities - Data Loss Prevention & Cybersecurity, Incident Recovery, Business Continuity

SI Innovator’s Business Resilience Assessment offering can help your business better understand how prepared your company is to continue business operations in the event of a business interruption or how protected you are from a cyber-attack. A Business Resilience Assessment may be divided to simplify focus and preparedness into three separate assessments:
  • Data Loss Prevention and Cybersecurity Risk Assessment – The assessment reviews the processes and procedures that are employed to successfully backup and protect the business-critical data/information in your enterprise. It provides focus for the organization to understand their most critical systems and data, current baseline controls and gaps, and data categories. It also draws upon the business impact analysis to determine the impacts to the business of a cyber incident or other catastrophic business interruption. The assessment provides a basis for itemizing, quantifying, and ranking security risks based on their potential impact to the organization. The assessment also includes the review of the enforcement of policies such as change management that require creating or modifying backup groups as applications go into production. It also reviews the decommissioning process of backup groups as applications are sunset.
  • Incident Recovery – The assessment reviews the processes and procedures that are employed to restore normal day-to-day operations after an interruption of service due to a defined (or in some cases undefined) Incident. It is important to note that in some cases if fail over to a recovery site is warranted, there may be an opportunity to fail back to the primary site. The assessment will review contingencies that should have been made for a fail back option.
  • Business Continuity – The assessment reviews the processes and procedures that pertain to the continuation of your business operations when your staff cannot work at their normal place of business or the applications they use are not available. This is setting Recovery Time Objectives (RTOs) and Recovery Point Objectives (RPOs).
Here is the basic question - If your office building lost power at 5am and was going to be closed for the day:

How would you notify your staff?
  • How would you notify your staff?
  • Where would they go to do their work?
  • Would they have the tools/resources necessary to accomplish their work?
  • What work could they accomplish from their alternate location?
  • How effective could they be and for how long?
  • And most important, would your staff know what to do?
Objectives of a Business Resilience Assessment
  • Ensure that your systems and data are being adequately protected based upon impact to your business
    • For example, all systems and data are being backed up, backups are viable, backups can be restored, etc.
  • Ensure that your staff is aware of the business interruption plans and can be notified when the plans need to be implemented
  • Ensure that in the event of a business interruption, your business can recover appropriately before your clients suffer some issue or go somewhere else for service
  • Ensure that when all of the effects of a business interruption have been abated, your company can return to business as usual
Business Resilience Assessment Methodology

Our methodology provides an efficient process to assess your company’s readiness to recover. Through a brief series of interviews with a cross-section of your staff and an analysis of your IT infrastructure and applications, the assessment can provide:
  • A high level Business Impact Analysis
  • An analysis of your company’s current level of availability planning (Current State)
  • An analysis of your company’s current ability to recover, gap identification and/or availability enhancement opportunities (Future State)
  • High level plans to remediate the gaps/enhancements (Transformation from Current State to Future State) (optional)
Cybersecurity Assessment Review

Core Capabilities: Cybersecurity, knowledge of Insurance Regulatory Environment and requirements to satisfy Department of Insurance Audits for Cybersecurity, Cross Vendor Project Management (PMO), Cloud Migration, Data Center Transformation & Strategy.

Insurance companies are facing increased regulatory scrutiny and requirements from regulators who are increasingly incorporating cybersecurity requirements and stricter controls in their IT audit reviews as part of their examinations. The issues are amplified because of legislation such as HIPAA, which mandate the protection of health information and other legislation requiring protection of customer information.

System Infrastructure Innovators is uniquely positioned with their industry experience in the Insurance Industry to help your company. There is often a knowledge gap as IT capabilities have been outsourced, to develop the strategies and designs for the outsourced contractors to follow to meet compliance. We can fill that gap, working collaboratively with your company to select the right solution that fits your company, budget and approach. In this regard we can help companies:
  • Respond to an exam or audit with deficiencies identified: We can help you develop an approach to mitigate the issues, select an approach or strategy tailored to your organization, ensure it is cost effective and meets the regulator’s requirements to close the issue and help you supervise the implementation with your IT provider.
  • Review your current infrastructure and IT policies, developing an assessment of issues prior to a regulatory audit with a view to minimizing issues in advance of the audit.
  • Develop appropriate policies and documentation if required.
Summary

SI Innovators can help your company significantly reduce risk and increase the likelihood of success of complex infrastructure projects by assisting in the planning, implementation, and management of these projects. We can also provide an assessment of your company’s current ability to recover after a business interruption or help you respond to a state insurance regulator’s IT audit examination.
